1. More is not more
More nutrient solution does not equal more yield. This isn’t steroids to a bodybuilder. Plants can only uptake so much of a certain compound or nutrient solution overall. Always check your waters PPM level using an EC metre to prevent nutrient burn and lockout
2. Prevention is better than cure
Flush at each nutrient change to ensure any salt build ups are flushed out and lock out doesn’t occur.
3. Dilution is the solution
Always dilute every nutrient solution with 10% water to prevent nutrient burn and lock out. Every nutrient bottle we have encountered appears overdosed. Don’t run the risk
4. Always plan for bugs
Plant bugs can appear out of nowhere and within 24 hours have bred and taken over your plant. Bugs will stunt its growth in turn affecting overall yield. Prevent them don’t cure them. Have a plan for pests and regularly apply pesticide solution
5. Light height = plant height
A light that is too distant from the plant will cause stretching. For growers using a tent space height is limited. Use the light height to control your plants heigh during the veg stages. No closer than 30cms
6. Routine
Plants respond to routine. Plants like routine like humans. They like a regular feed schedule and at specific times. Focus feeding times around lights on (every 3-4 hours) and no feeding towards lights off
7. Big pots = big plants
Healthy root systems equal healthy plants which equal healthy yields.
Larger pots allow for an expanded root system resulting in a higher oxygen content in the soil and a greater area for nutrients to be absorbed. Bigger pots will result in bigger plants under the right conditions.
8. Cut back plant, cut back nutes
It’s critical to dilute nutrients following a foliage trim. After a trimming session the plant is recovering from the loss of leaves and is highly sensitive to nutrients.
Trimming the plant at certain stages of growth is an important step to promote light penetration and to direct nutrients to other areas of the plant. Large leaves with purple stems are mature and can be easily removed. Every plant is different, some will be bushy and some will be thin. Either way they will be tender after a trim so tone down that nutrient schedule
9. Look, listen, learn
Plants are great communicators. Unlike humans they will always communicate what they need and what they don’t like. Learn the signs, watch for them and respond accordingly. The internet is your friend with this one. The feeding schedule and nutrient schedule are designed as a guide. Listen to your plant.
